Niagara region is situated on treaty land.  This land has a rich history of First Nations such as the Hatiwendaronk, the Haudenosaunee and the Anishinaabe, including the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. There are many First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples from across Turtle Island that live and work in Niagara today.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

The federal government was called upon, in collaboration with Indigenous Peoples, to establish a statutory holiday to honour survivors of residential schools, their families and communities and ensure that public commemoration of the history and legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process. September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (National Orange Shirt Day).
